Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Counselling and ADHD Coaching?
Counselling provides a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and relationships. It can be helpful if you are experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, emotional overwhelm, difficult life experiences or simply feel that something isn't quite right.
ADHD coaching is generally more practical and goal-focused, helping you understand your ADHD-related challenges and develop strategies for areas such as organisation, motivation, routines, procrastination, time management and focus.
For some people, a combination of both can be helpful.
How do I know which one I need?
You don't have to know before you get in touch. We can talk about what is happening for you and what you would like support with. Together, we can consider whether counselling, ADHD coaching or a combination of both would be most appropriate.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet, talk about what has brought you to counselling or coaching and explore what you would like from our work together. You can ask questions, explain what you are struggling with and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
You don't need to have everything figured out before you come.
Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to have ADHD coaching?
No. You do not need a formal ADHD diagnosis to access ADHD coaching.
You may recognise ADHD traits in yourself, be considering an assessment, or simply be struggling with areas such as organisation, motivation, procrastination, time management or overwhelm. We can focus on the challenges you are experiencing and explore practical strategies that may help.
Please note that ADHD coaching is not a diagnostic service and cannot provide an ADHD diagnosis.
Will you tell me what to do?
No. Both counselling and coaching are collaborative.
In person-centred counselling, you are supported to explore your experiences and develop your own understanding rather than being told what decisions to make.
In ADHD coaching, we work together to identify what is getting in the way and explore practical strategies that fit your life.
You remain in control of the process
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number. Everyone is different. Some people may want support with a particular issue, while others benefit from working together for longer.
We can regularly review how things are going and decide what feels right for you.
Are Counselling and Coaching confidential?
Yes. Counselling and Coaching are confidential spaces, with some important professional and safeguarding exceptions. These will be explained clearly at the beginning of our work together, so you understand how confidentiality works.
